Updated 4th June 2020
Wheems is now closed to visitors until further notice due to Covid-19.
The current priority nationwide is to listen to professional advice and guidance and help to protect the health and safety of the community.

This will be reviewed at the end of June. We are asking you not to come to the farm nor the campsite in the meantime.

In order to maintain social distancing measures for the next few months the following units will not be bookable.

Closed for 2020
Wheems Yurt
Buttercup and Dandelion Bell Tents
Camping in tents
Visitors booked in later in the season we are asking to wait for further advice, we will contact you by email if your booking is affected and we haven’t heard from you. We will also post any updates here.

If you are unable to visit Wheems owing to Covid-19 this season we encourage you to change your dates to more suitable dates, which you can do multiple times free of charge, by either changing them on the website or emailing us at wheemsbothy@gmail.com.

We understand that this is a difficult time financially for many people so we are refunding those who cannot foresee being able to make it to Orkney in the future. If you need to cancel your booking outright you can email us at any time and we will issue you a refund minus a small admin fee. If you booked via Airbnb you can change or cancel your booking on Airbnb and we can issue any refunds on the airbnb site, this also goes for other external booking sites.

This notice overrides the standard cancellation policy we have advertised.

Further advice on Covid-19 can be found here

Stay well and look after each other.
All at Wheems

WHEEMS ORGANIC FARM is an ecological and organic 6 hectare horticulture and animal smallholding, producing organic food for a local market. Wheems farm buildings are 200 years old and have been renovated using local, traditional and sustainable materials. Wheems farmland has been sensitively landscaped with areas set aside for conservation, areas carved out with stone dyke walling, and areas of tree planting.

Christina Sargent and Mike Roberts moved to Wheems in 1986. They have built up a working Organic Farm producing organic food for a local market in Orkney and later a holiday campsite.

Christina Sargent was a felt and print artist active in leading workshops in primary and secondary schools. Latterly, she concentrated on painting; there is a small gallery of her work at Wheems. Christina was also a professional oboe player in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and since moving to Orkney she taught all the woodwind instruments to many pupils on the Island. Christina was also one of the founders of the Orkney Camerata Chamber Orchestra.

Mike Roberts is an organic farmer and landscape architect working on ecological house design landscaping projects in Orkney.

Since Christina passed away in 2013, he travels to India every winter to volunteer for several months at a time; pictures of his travels can be found here.

Christina and Mike have a large grown-up family with children living in Orkney, Scotland, England, Australia and the USA.
