Facilities & local information

At Wild Orcadian on Wheems Farm you will meet us, Robert and Vicky, the new owners. We’ve recently taken over the site after running a successful site in Northumberland for many years, Wild Northumbrian. We live in the farmhouse and run the whole site.

To help you find your way around our site you can download our map by clicking here.

Most things at Wild Orcadian are second hand and up-cycled as we are concerned about wastage. There is a network Wifi plug in the campers’ kitchen, the password is on the plug this is sometimes intermittent but there is a 3G signal on the campsite so you should get a good connection with this.

We have a range of facilities to make your stay with us more comfortable.

Guest access

Reception is at the back door of our house. We live and work on site and should be around throughout the day on the farm, around the campsite or at the farmhouse from 9am to 9pm. Please ring our mobile 0772 005 3724 if no one is around and you need to speak to us.

Parking

The car park is signposted at the top of the track on your left beyond the tractor shed, parking in the car park is free. If this car park is full there is another smaller car park at the top of the first section of track.

Fires & barbeques

These are permitted provided they are raised off the ground so as not to kill the grass nor cause any fire hazard.

Dogs

If you are bringing a dog please bring your own blankets and let us know if you need a dog basket. Please keep your dogs on leads at all times whilst on the campsite, we have ducks, chickens, a couple of Kune Kune pigs and two beautiful Highland Cows.

Dogs must not be let off their leads on Orkney anywhere near livestock. The fields behind the house and campsite which are signed, are not for dogs due to being protected areas for wildlife and livestock.

The dog poo bin is opposite the recycling point and is marked on the map. Please use only biodegradable poo bags. We have some if yours are not biodegradable – please take some from the shower block cupboard.

We are more than happy to take guests to see our pigs, cows or hens but would ask that you do not go independently for safety reasons. Also please keep dogs on leads when onsite.
